Tina Fakhrid-Deen-LGBTQ Family Educator/Activist: Live and Archived
Today we had an all too brief talk with LGBTQ mother, activist, educator, writer and author of the wonderful book, Let's Get This Straight: The Ultimate Handbook for Youth with LGBTQ Parents, Tina Fakhrid-Deen.
Tina shared her story about growing up with a lesbian mom, working through her own homophobia to accept her mother's identity and finding her activist voice in the face of rampant homophobia.
We also talked about how race and class intersect with issues facing kids from sexual minority families and how schools can make sure that they are safe spaces for the kids of LGBTQ parents including anti-bullying policies. Because we still had so much more to talk about, we're working to welcome Tina back to the show later this Summer.
