This video of WBAI radio host Jay Smooth's Tedx talk entitled "How I Stopped Worrying and Love Discussing Race" reminds me of the Applied Research Center webinar I took last week called "Changing the Conversation on Race." One of the big takeaways from that webinar and from Jay Smooth's talk, is that "racism does not require intent."
Jay Smooth's advice that examining our unconscious prejudice is about maintenance and habitual action is also really useful, especially when you consider, as Terry Keleher of ARC suggests, that what fuels racial justice is really set of values (belief in fairness, equity, humanity and dignity of all people, etc) we should all want to share in common. (hat tip to Racialicious for the video)
